BIO

Uruguayan visual storyteller and social artivist. He is currently developing long-term projects that explore the relationship between cultural identity, inequality, and social justice. He is also the artistic director of the international festival SAN JOSÉ FOTO, a photography professor at the University of Arts at the UNLP La Plata (Argentina), and a photobook editor at El Ministerio Ediciones (Uruguay). His work is represented by the East Wing gallery (Qatar), and he has been a Catchlight Global Fellow (USA) since 2025.

Estol holds a degree in photography from the UPC-Barcelona Tech University and a diploma in popular education from the Franciscan Multiversity of Latin America. His work has received accolades such as the KG+ Select Award at Kyotographie (Japan), the Emergentes Award at the Encontros da Imagem Festival (Portugal), the Marco Pesaresi Contemporary Photography Prize (Italy), the FELIFA International Photobook Award (Argentina), the Critical Mass – Photolucida Award from the Oregon Center of Photography (USA), the Jury Award at the Lenzburg Festival (Switzerland), the Best Latin American Photobook Award from the Montevideo Photography Center (Uruguay), and the Expert Award from the Lishui Photography Museum (China).

He has also been a finalist for the Paris Photo–Aperture Photobook Award (France), the Global Peace Photo Award (Germany) and the Kaunas Photo Star prize (Lithuania).

His works are found in various private and public collections such as the IHEAL Latin American Institute of the Sorbonne University in France, the FOLA Latin American Photo Library in Argentina, the Lishui Photography Museum in China, the Fondazione Orestiadi in Italy, the Museum of the Avant-garde in Switzerland and the National Museum of Photography in Norway.
